Out Of Our Heads

Mono LK4733
Stereo SKL4733
Issued in England in September of 1965.
Out Of Our Heads was the third LP for the domestic market in UK. This LP was not sold in other European countries. Decca opted for issuing the US version of OOOH for exported to the rest of Europe and still pressing it in UK. The catalogue number was LK4725 for the export version.
Both the cover and the songs are different on the two LP’s. The main reason for pressing two different OOOH LP’s in England was that the megahit from summer of -65, “Satisfaction” should be available in Europe on a LP. Decca’s policy in UK was not to issue any tracks on a LP that already could be found on a single. Satisfaction had been issued in UK on a single so therefor they redesigned OOOH for the UK domestic market.
Vinyl versions
Grooved label
Both Mono and Stereo LP's can be found with grooved and non grooved labels. This indicates that mono LP's were pressed up to the end on the 60's. No other differences are existing on the vinyl

Cover versions
There are a few cover differances existing on this LP.
Mono & Stereo
No variations on the Mono & Stereo texts. Pictured here are Mono and Stereo covers

Misspelling
One small detail to take notice of is that the Copyright year is misspelled as "965" instead of "1965": This is sometimes marketed as "extremely rare missprint" on items sold on e-bay. In fact all covers from the very first one in 1965 and up to the last one in 1980 had the same spelling error. So if you find one that has 1965, THAT copy would be a rare one
Printed By
Most of the existing covers has "Printed in England by Robert Stace." Some early Mono covers do have "Clout & Baker"
All covers made in the 70's with boxed label vinyls are "Printed in England by Robert Stace"

The light and dark cover
The color of the cover was very dark at some point of production. The dark cover has so far been found only with nongrooved stereo LP’s, indicating that they vere pressed in late 1968 or 1969. Light coloder to the left and the dark version to the right. Picture and info supplied by Robert Coyne

The Green Cover
The first versions of the cover were almost black and white in colour, only a slight greenish tune was there. The so called "green cover" is only exisiting on boxed label LP's and this cover is made in the mid 70's.
"Clarifoli"
All sleeves with non boxed vinyl labels and most of the sleeves with boxed vinyl labels has the "Clarifoil" text in the left corner. There are some mid 70's stereo sleeves that have the text missing

Label versions
OOOH sold in great quantities and therefor it can be found with several label versions. To be noted is that OOOH was the first LP that had only the “MADE IN ENGLAND. THE DECCA RECORD CO.LTD.” on the upper part of the label. Mono LP’s are only existing with non boxed labels where as the Stereo is existing with both non boxed and boxed labels

DECCA logos cover up
Some LP’s sold in USA in the end of the 60’s were regular UK stock copies printed in England. They had all DECCA related text covered, both on the sleeve and on the LP label.
John Villanova who lives in Yonkers, New York, USA, just outside of New York City, gave me this piece of nice information in the end of March 2009
Around 1967 a large quantity of English pressed singles and albums started making their way into the US record stores (whatever the exact reason is, to this day remains unclear, I've never gotten a definite answer) But this affected many labels, many Beatles records appeared but the labels were not covered (there was no Parlophone label in the US), but all the Stones records had these colored papers on them. There is a Decca label in the USA, but it has no connection with the British label. As we all know, the Stones weren't signed to Decca, they were signed to London in US. I guess the importers covered up whatever Logo or copyright they could possibly infringe upon.
Also since all American singles come with the large center hole, every one of these imported singles had their centers "popped-out". It's still not uncommon these days to find a late 60's British single in a garage sale with the center missing, label logo covered, or with tear marks from somebody removing the label covering....
Thanx John for sharing this with us. I’d say we have another mystery solved
Here are pictures from a complete LP. DECCA logo on the front of the sleeve is covered up. Same thing with the DECCA logo on the back of the sleeve. This LP is in the Stone-relics collection
